Zahid, pensions are paid by taxpayers, not Umno

YOURSAY | ‘Don't belittle the intelligence of pensioners and the past services they have rendered.’
Pahatian: Government pensioners must not be ungrateful if they expect good things from the government, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Pensioners are retired civil servants receiving a reduced rate of their last drawn pay. Though their pensions are adjusted with a 2 percent increase every year, it does not match the yearly inflation rate of more than 3 percent.
With the imposition of the goods and services tax (GST), the pensioners are also at the losing end. The purchasing power and the sustainability of their pensions are diminishing year by year, so much so that they are back to where they have started.
Zahid, even if you have whispered to your boss about giving us some goodies, we will not be swayed.
Anonymous 2436471476414726: Zahid, pensions are paid by taxpayers, not you or Umno.
To the pensioners, take the money but don't feel indebted to the present government. Other future governments will still pay your pensions, if not more.
It is part of your civil service scheme and no government can take it away.
Foureyes: Zahid, don't belittle the intelligence and the past services rendered by the pensioners.
Children don't tell their parents to be grateful for the pocket allowance they give to the parents. Those who do so are totally devoid of human compassion and run contrary to the fine Asian culture of respecting their elders.
Monty: What a disgusting statement from the deputy prime minister. He should know better and not take pensioners for granted. All that they have, they earned and there is no reason to threaten them with possible losses.
Malaysian people and pensioners struggle to live a decent life. Look at other countries like Singapore and Australia - their people are paid a decent wage and their pensioners are paid enough to live a decent lifestyle.
Ravinder: The hand that feeds the pensioners and all government servants is that of the taxpaying public. So they must not betray the taxpaying public who demand accountability and transparency from those handling their money.
If the taxpaying public feels that it is time to change the government, they must support the taxpaying public.
Goldee: These are the only words they know: "Don't bite the hands that feed you."
This phrase should be aimed at the members of parliament, especially the ministers, who should not take the voters for granted. Please do not forget that you are in the government because the people who elected you gave you the opportunity to do so.
Vijay47: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said those engrossed in the blame game over the violence at the Nothing to Hide 2 forum have forgotten that it was sparked off by the unsatisfactory response regarding the Memali incident. He noted that PAS was the victim of that episode, which led to the Islamist party losing one of its leaders, Ibrahim Mahmud.
Criticism against each other's actions and statements is the norm in political Malaysia; both BN and the opposition do it with equal gusto. But one would expect such condemnation to be achieved in a mature, intelligent way founded on logic.
This seems to be clearly absent when we examine comments on the Nothing to Hide disturbances. First, the Selangor police chief suggested that it was the fault of the organisers for their failure in ensuring security.
But if the police were not to be concerned with security, why were they present at the hall in civilian clothes? To keep tabs on supporters and not on intruders bent on causing havoc?
Had they been in their pretty uniforms and looking cute like MACC’s Azam Baki, it would have been effective in deterring those with mayhem in mind.
Not to be outdone, we next had MCA’s religious harmony bureau chief Ti Lian Ker coming out with an explanation as baffling as it was ludicrous.
He, no doubt with an eye on candidates for the elections, somehow concluded that the violence was actually planned for Najib. And since our brave prime minister refrained from attending, Mahathir had been attacked instead, because the show had to go on.
Now Hadi has joined the fray, revealing that exquisite brilliance found only in PAS. His contribution is that since Mahathir did not answer the Memali questions in an acceptable manner, the rioters were quite justified in their attack.
One shudders to imagine teacher-student relations in PAS’s religious schools. In defence, such reasoning could be attributed to the sevoflurane administered to Hadi during his recent surgery.
Gerard Lourdesamy: Hadi, go read the White Paper tabled in Parliament about the Memali incident. At least Mahathir had the guts to present the paper for debate in the House. Have you demanded the same with regards to 1MDB?
So, if somebody does not like your answer, he is justified in using violence against you? What kind of Islam is that?
Both the National Fatwa Council and the Kedah Fatwa Committee issued edicts that Ibrahim Libya and his followers who died did not die as martyrs in Islam.
In fact, they were members of a deviant sect that posed a serious security risk. The police acted in self-defence and followed standard operating procedures during the operation.

Instead, questions should be asked as to why these people were armed and why they were willing to use force to defend their beliefs. PAS must also explain their support for such a radical group. - Mkini
