Angkasa to build solar farms in Kedah, Perlis, Perak

Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Bhd (Angkasa) is introducing solar farms in Kedah, Perlis and northern Perak to provide long-term benefits to many quarters.
Its president, Abdul Fattah Abdullah said that the three northern states were ideal for solar farms as they received high levels of sunlight for solar panels.
“These three states have a fairly long period of sunlight every year, so they are ideal for this project, which is fully dependent on the amount of sunlight and heat," he said after the launch of an Angkasa Solar Farm in Sungai Tiang here, today.
Construction of the solar farms at the cost of RM9.78 million started last year.
The solar farms can produce electricity up to 3,000kW per day, including 1,000kW to facilitate agricultural development in Sungai Tiang.
The pioneer solar farm project undertaken by Angkasa could generate more than RM90,000 a month in revenue by providing electricity to 12,000 residents.
“It was built through a 21-year sales contract to Tenaga Nasional Berhad as a distribution licensee. It delivers 97 sen per kW hour," said Abdul Fattah.
He said as the solar panels were installed three meters above ground, vegetables and fruit trees could be grown underneath as side income for locals.
