The police are recording a statement from former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad at his office at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.
At around 1.30pm, four police officers in two cars arrived at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya and entered the building.
According to a source, Mahathir is being quizzed over his “Bugis pirates” remark.
Yesterday, inspector-general of police Mohd Fuzi Harun said the former premier’s statement would be recorded in relation to his remark at a gathering in Petaling Jaya on Oct 14.
In his speech at the “anti-kleptocracy rally”, Mahathir had mocked Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak by comparing him to “Bugis pirates”.
This courted the wrath of two sultans of Bugis descent, Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
The Bugis community was also up in arms, with the Bugis Youth Assembly of Macassar Indonesia (PPBMI) and Indonesia vice-president Jusuf Kalla demanding an apology from Mahathir.
Mahathir, however, defended his remarks, saying it was only targetted at Najib and not the entire community.

Police record statement from Dr Mahathir over forex losses
PUTRAJAYA: Police have arrived at Perdana Leadership Foundation to record a statement from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the foreign exchange losses suffered by Bank Negara in the 1990s.
Six officers, believed to be from Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crimes Department, arrived at the Foundation here at 1.40pm Wednesday.
The former prime minister’s lawyer, Mohamed Khatira Abdullah, was seen entering the premises at 1.05pm.
The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI), which was set up to look into the losses had lodged a police report on Nov 30, calling for investigations to determine whether criminal breach of trust, fraud and cheating had been committed with regard to the losses.
The RCI, headed by former Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan, had presented the 524-page report to Parliament.
In the report, the RCI said that it believed that the then prime minister was aware of the then finance minister’s actions that had caused the central bank to suffer losses amounting to RM31.5bil. It was also of the opinion that the then finance minister had deliberately been hiding facts and information and made misleading statements to the Cabinet on the matter.
Dr Mahathir was the prime minister at the time while Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was the deputy prime minister and finance minister.
