Wedding convoy tumbles downhill in Sandakan road collapse

SANDAKAN: A stretch of Jalan Prosperous Village in Sibunga here collapsed on Thursday morning, just as a convoy of cars carrying wedding guests was passing over it.

The 9.05am collapse caused four of the cars to tumble down the short hillside, with some of the vehicles landing on their sides or turning turtle.

However, all occupants of the four vehicles, which were heading to the groom’s house at Prosperous Village from Jalan Linta Sibunga, escaped unhurt.

Following the incident, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin and several policemen rushed to the site to assess the situation and safety of people involved.

It is learnt that the road had been old and in a fragile state, and was not capable of accommodating the many vehicles on the stretch at once.
