Selangor police have assured that they will investigate allegations by actor Farid Kamil Zahari that he was assaulted by policemen while under remand.
State CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat told Malaysiakini that the police have already opened an investigation into Farid's claim.
"For your information, we have opened up an investigation paper into Farid's allegation. The probe is still ongoing.
"We initiated the probe on Jan 31," he said, adding that all those named by Farid will be called up to assist the investigation.
Yesterday, Farid told a press conference in Shah Alam that he was assaulted by 11 cops on his third day in remand after being detained for assaulting a policeman while making a police report.
He claimed that he forced into a straitjacket, before the light in his cell was switched off, and the cops pounced on him.
According to him, he struggled in the process, and the next thing he knew when the light came on, he was bleeding profusely.
The alleged attack left him with a scar on his forehead, he claimed.
Farid said he had lodged a police report against the 11 cops, on Jan 31, at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police headquarters, but claimed he had called for the press conference as he was disappointed with the police non-action on the matter.
In mid-January, Farid was slapped with a few charges, including disorderly conduct, voluntarily causing hurt, obstruction of a public servant in the performance of duty, and drug abuse.
Prior to this, he had allegedly slapped a 24-year-old policeman and kicking two civilians when he came to the Kota Damansara police station to lodge an accident report. -Mkini
