BN must give us Wangsa Maju seat again, says Umno

Wangsa Maju Umno division chief says BN leadership must take note of MCA's actions in shutting down its operations centre in last GE after not being given the seat.

PETALING JAYA: Wangsa Maju Umno division chief Mohd Shafei Abdullah wants to be the Barisan Nasional candidate again for the parliamentary seat in the upcoming polls.
Shafei lost to PKR’s Tan Kee Kwong in the 2013 general election but fancies his chances in the 14th general election (GE14) despite having lost by 5,511 votes the last time around.
He is hoping that the BN leadership would let Umno contest again with talk that the seat will be returned to MCA. A BN candidate from MCA won Wangsa Maju in the 2004 general election but failed to retain the seat in 2008.
“If you ask me, of course, I want BN to save the seat for us,” he told FMT, adding that he would be glad if Umno is given the seat for the polls which will be held on May 9.
Shafei also cited the alleged boycott by MCA in the 2013 general election when the seat was given to Umno to contest.
“MCA were said to have gone against the wishes of the BN by shutting down their operations room and threatening to boycott the election.
“This is why I think Umno should be given the Wangsa Maju seat again. However, it is still up to the BN leadership to decide.”
Recently, Wangsa Maju MCA division chief Yew Teong Look told FMT that MCA should not be put aside due to threats made by some Chinese voters that they will vote for the opposition should MCA be given the seat.
“We are taking a wait and see approach as the BN leadership has still not announced who will be the candidate. Regardless, Wangsa Maju MCA is making a full preparation as if we have been chosen to contest,” he said. FMT
