The Sabah ministry of rural development (KPLB) has denied allegations that it helped gather data for “Projek IC” as was viralled on social media following a letter it issued to obtain information on villages recently.
In a statement issued yesterday, Sabah KPLB said the letter was to gather information on villages located far from the National Registration Department offices in every district in the state.
“The letter is to gather information on the distance and location of the villages as a first effort towards resolving the problem of late registration of births and deaths due to the distance of the villages to the District Registration Offices,” the statement said.
It said late registration of births and deaths was still a big problem in Sabah and Sarawak.
“Projek IC” refers to unproven claims that identity documents were made available to illegal immigrants in the state.
