Victory a miracle, but I've the guts to do battle – MCA candidate

MCA candidate for the Balakong by-election Tan Chee Teong conceded that it would be nothing short of a miracle for him to win the seat.
However, the 40-year-old businessman pointed out that he possessed the courage to do battle in the DAP stronghold.
“We are the underdog. There were more than 35,000 majority votes (in the last general election). It would be like a miracle if we win this,” he said in a speech at the party's operations room today.
Tan, who hails from Balakong, said numerous quarters, including his close friends, had told him and MCA not to contest in the by-election.
“They said MCA will not stand a chance. But this is not about winning or losing.
“It is about the courage to stand. We will face the rakyat... And the rakyat will slowly accept our changes,” he added.
Tan also said Harapan has not delivered many of its promises despite pledging to do so within 100 days of coming to power.
“They had indulged in empty talk. Now it is time for the people to rate them.
"Although I am labelled an underdog, it will not come as a surprise if the people of Balakong decide to back MCA this time around,” he added.
Also present were MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong, Serdang MCA chairperson Liew Yuen Keong, campaign director Chew Mei Fun and MIC central working committee member N Rawisandran.
Tan would be facing DAP's Wong Siew Ki, who is a Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) councillor, in the Sept 2 by-election.
The Balakong state seat fell vacant after two-term incumbent Eddie Ng from DAP died in an accident on July 20.
Nomination day falls on Aug 18. - Mkini
