| The cabinet will decide on whether the full report by a special investigation committee on procurement, governance and finance headed by former auditor-general Ambrin Buang can be made public.
Among others, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu said last month, the report had uncovered land swap deals involving the ministry, which resulted in more than RM500 million in losses and leakages.
During Question Time today, Mohamad said a decision would be made on whether a full report from the six-month-long study could be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat.
"The committee has submitted its preliminary report, particularly on the land swap, and it has been tabled to the cabinet.
"The cabinet will decide whether the report can be distributed to the MPs and made public," Mohamad said in response to Chan Lih Kang (Harapan-Tanjong Malim).
At the same time, he said, the ministry has implemented various recommendations to improve its overall procurement process and prevent more losses.
Mohamad added that the land swap case is being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and as such no further details could be revealed until its completion.
It is understood that the losses occurred through 16 projects dating as far back as 1997 and involved 1,186 hectares of Defence Ministry land valued at RM4.75 billion, with project costs at RM4.88 billion. - Mkini
