PAS No 2 advises MCA to not dance to DAP's tune

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has advised MCA to focus on consolidating the opposition's strength.

"Rightfully, in terms of opposition cooperation, MCA should look at the interest of making the opposition voice louder.
"MCA does not need to dance to DAP's beat," he told Malaysiakini in a curt reply in Kota Bharu today.
MCA and MIC top brass met yesterday and resolved that a BN supreme council meeting has to be called immediately to discuss the fate of the coalition.
The two parties also suggested that they were "moving on" and exploring a new alliance.
Traditionally, the BN supreme council meets several times a year. There has not been a single council meeting since the general elections last year.
The appointment of Nazri Abdul Aziz as BN secretary-general was done without conferring with MCA and MIC.
While BN was jointly formed by Umno, MCA and MIC in the 1970s, Umno has been unilaterally steering BN towards a pact with PAS.
This was seen during the Cameron Highlands and Semenyih by-elections, where Umno and PAS campaigned together, while MCA and MIC were left with little role to play.

Meanwhile, PAS Youth vice-chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said MCA and MIC's gambit was unlikely to weaken Umno.
"From the outside looking in, MCA and MIC's efforts appear to be a ploy to seek non-Muslim and non-Malay support.
"It will not affect Umno, which depends on the Malays. I hope (MCA and MIC's position) will benefit PAS in terms of cooperation with Umno," he said.  - Mkini
