Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be visiting the victims of the Pasir Gudang toxic gas emissions this evening.
Mahathir is expected to arrive at the Senai airport at 5pm, and will be visiting the Pasir Gudang operations centre and hospitals.
The press was informed that a 5pm event in Putrajaya, where Mahathir was supposed to handover Bersatu memberships to former Sabah Umno members, has been postponed to tomorrow.
Over 900 people are said to have been affected by toxic fumes being emitted by the Kim Kim river in Pasir Gudang.
More than 200 are reported to be in the hospital after being exposed to the gas, while eight are in intensive care.
The fumes are believed to have been the result of illegal toxic waste being dumped into the river.
All schools in Pasir Gudang have been closed as a result of the incident.
Meanwhile, the Dewan Rakyat has approved an emergency motion for the federal government to declare a state of emergency in Pasir Gudang.
Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof accepted the motion, which was tabled by Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim under Standing Order 18 (1).
Ariff said the motion would be debated at 4.30pm. - Mkini
