Two controversial BN-era laws will be up for debate in the upcoming Parliament session, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
These are the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) and the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA).
Muhyiddin, however, declined to say if the laws will be repealed or amended.
"Wait for the cabinet to make an announcement, I can't say for now," he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
Sosma has been criticised and likened to a modern-day version of the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA) due to its provisions for detention without trial.
Meanwhile, PAA had been deemed as a tool used by the previous BN government to curtail freedom of assembly.
In its manifesto, Pakatan Harapan promised to abolish draconian provisions in Sosma, PAA and other laws, including the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) and Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota).
Muhyiddin had said in December that Sosma and Poca would be retained, but would see amendments.
He also said that the committee reviewing Poca has made "a lot of progress," but did not give a timeline on when it would be brought to Parliament - Mkini
