Former Umno Youth leader Razlan Rafii has claimed that his controversial “tembak” remark should not be taken literally as a call to shoot DAP members and leaders.
According to him, the term “tembak” has various meanings.
“If it is a direct translation, it will mean 'shoot'. But (there are other meanings) such as to criticise or mock someone.
“This is the reason I always tell DAP leaders to learn Bahasa Malaysia. There are many DAP leaders who can't speak Bahasa Malaysia well. So they must learn,” he added.
Razlan was speaking to journalists after the police recorded his statement over the matter at Bukit Aman in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
He is being investigated under Section 505(C) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA).
On March 15, Razlan had tweeted “.. elok tembak puak2 DAP ni !!!” in response to DAP assemblyperson Chew Chong Sin warning about the dangers of Umno and PAS' narrative following shootings at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Chew later retracted his statement and apologised.
Meanwhile, Razlan said he believes that the investigations against him is “100 percent” politically motivated and is part of DAP's efforts to seek revenge against him.
“I am not a top (Umno leader) at present. I am just a normal person in Umno. But I am seen as a political threat to DAP leaders,” he added.
Razlan also denied stoking racial tension or inciting people with his remark.
“It has nothing to do with inciting racial hatred because DAP is a political party, which claims to be multiracial. So why is it when I criticise DAP, I am accused of stoking racial hatred?” he asked.- Mkini
