THE cooperation between Umno and PAS will only hasten MCA’s death in Barisan Nasional, said former MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek.
Dr Chua said PAS leaders only knew how to issue statements that could hurt other races, for example, by saying that it is better to have a corrupt Muslim run the country than to have a non-Muslim doing so.
He said MCA will find it hard to win the support of Chinese Malaysians if such statements are allowed.
“This is also points out that the non-Muslims have been sidelined and DAP will come forward to win over the Chinese without having to work too hard.
“If MCA comes out, the Malay support will be out. However, I feel MCA should leave Barisan Nasional and dare to be independent.
“If we continue to be with Umno, MCA will suffer a quicker death due to the lack of support from the Chinese community,” he was quoted as saying by Mingguan Malaysia.
MCA and MIC had voiced their intention to leave BN last week to explore cooperation with others who demand unity in diversity last week.
In a Barisan Nasional Supreme Council meeting last Friday, MCA had proposed the resolution to dissolve BN, but no consensus were reached – MCA and MIC therefore remains in BN.
Dr Chua admitted MCA will lose its advantage in Malay-majority areas if they leave BN but questioned what happens in Chinese-dominated areas.
“The Chinese will always reject PAS. It is not because of the religion but because the leaders are selfish and insensitive, as well as issuing numerous views that could hurt other races.
“Previously, the Chinese supported PAS in Pakatan Rakyat but that is due to their resolve for a change of regime. They are all fed up with Umno and BN.
“These days, no DAP leader would dare to be seen with PAS,” he said.
