Despite being a public holiday, a special cabinet meeting will be held tomorrow, wherein ministers will submit policy papers to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
According to Domestic Trade and Consumers Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the special cabinet meeting will enable the most important issues facing the country to be discussed in depth.
"If it were to be discussed during the usual cabinet meetings, (which take place) from 9.30am to 12pm, time is limited," he told reporters at the sidelines of the Penang Legislative Assembly today.
"Therefore, May 1 was selected so that ministers would be able to attend. The decision to meet on May 1 was made last Wednesday."
Saifuddin said that his own policy paper will discuss the cost of living and policies to further benefit consumers.
"I have done my policy paper, the finance minister has done his – I think he has two papers – while the health minister also told me that he is excited to share his ideas. That is what is going on on May 1.
Asked about the most pressing issues likely to be discussed, Saifuddin touched on job creation.
"When the people have jobs, they get salaries and they carry on with their lives," he said.
According to Saifuddin, the prime minister has asked his cabinet to work more closely with the business community to create more employment opportunities, so that the economy can grow dynamically. - Mkini
