IPOH: In a case of mistaken identity, the neighbour of a family who fled before an Ah Long (loan shark) could harm them ended up becoming the target of fury and warned to pay up or face the consequences.
Chiang Ghee Siew, 55, from Taman Kledang Sentosa, Menglembu, alleged that at 9am on Sunday, she was shocked to find red paint thrown on her front gate, wall and the rear of her Myvi.
“I also found a note with a name and identification card number, as well as a warning: ‘Owe money pay money! This is the first warning! Don’t make us burn your house!’
“The name was that of my neighbour who had moved out with his wife and two children on July 21 for a location unknown to me.
“I hardly knew them and would merely say hello if we ran into each other,” said the human resources executive at a press conference at Wisma DAP today.
Chiang said that when she went to report the incident at the Menglembu police station, she was told that the person in the note had made a police report claiming he was being harassed by an Ah Long for a RM10,000 debt.
She said she had never taken a loan, much less from a loan shark, and hoped the police will do what’s required to solve the situation.
She said for four years she had lived in the house with her sister and niece, and they had never experienced this kind of thing before. They were fearful they will be bothered again.
State DAP public complaints bureau director Steven Chaw Kam Foon said his office has received five complaints since January about being harassed by Ah Long.
“I hope the police will investigate and arrest the culprits because it concerns public safety,” he said. - FMT
