Fifty arrested after cops bust 'wild' birthday party in Bukit Mertajam

BUKIT MERTAJAM (Bernama): A group of 50 people celebrating a birthday party at a karaoke centre in Jalan Berapit here were arrested at 4am Sunday (June 30) after a police bust found drugs at the scene, following a tip-off.
Comprising 37 men and 13 women aged between 15 and 30, the group included four under-aged individuals consisting of two boys and two girls.
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the raid found two Erimin 5 pills and five red pills also believed to be drugs, as well as a packet of condoms on the floor of the room which the group had rented.
Among the arrested were factory workers, as well as self-employed and jobless individuals, with some in the group having never visited a karaoke lounge before and ending up at the event because they were brought there by friends.
Urine tests found that three in the group, including a woman, had tested positive for drugs.
In another case, Nik Ros Azhan said police arrested two unemployed men aged 30 and seized 25 packets of ketum juice worth RM250 as well as equipment to process the juice, in a raid at a house in Jalan Gajah Mati, Machang Bubok, on Saturday (June 29) at 5.30pm.
Investigations found that the men had received their supply of ketum leaves from a syndicate in a neighbouring state, before processing the leaves themselves and selling the juice to customers in the Bukit Mertajam area for the past two months. - Bernama
