Bukit Aman: Police superintendent nabbed for drug abuse

NILAI: A police superintendent is the highest ranking officer caught for drug abuse during operations conducted in police contingents nationwide, says Bukit Aman Narcotics chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd.
He said the senior officer was among 112 policemen found to be involved in substance abuse.
"We are not embarrassed to admit that we too have individuals who are taking drugs.
"We will continue with this because we cannot have those who are supposed to uphold the law violate it.

"How can they execute their duties if they are being addicts themselves," he said when met at the Customs (Narcotics) headquarters here.

On Wednesday (Aug 21), Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador had revealed that more than 100 police officers have tested positive for drugs in an operation conducted in police contingents nationwide since Aug 13.
The IGP said he was shocked by the number of policemen whose urine tests were positive for various drugs, particularly syabu, indicating that drug abuse in the police force was at a critical and serious level.
The operation, which was aimed at cleansing the force of corruptive elements and improving its integrity, was also being used to facilitate sting operations on drug-producing laboratories, drug traffickers and addicts.
Some 3,400 policemen had undergone urine tests in the operation dubbed Ops Blue Devil.- Star
