DAP senator urges rejection of divisive, destructive polemics

DAP senator Lim Hui Ying (above) has expressed her dissatisfaction with the number of fake news, racial and religious comments and political slander dominating our social media.
Hui Ying said Malaysians should always ensure that tolerant racial behaviour is preserved by following the Rukun Negara, which is the centrepiece of stability and unity in Malaysia.
"All divisive and destructive polemics should be rejected immediately, so that we can ensure all races, religions and cultures in Malaysia are protected and respected by everyone in the country," she said in a statement to Malaysiakini.
"In a few days more, we will be celebrating the 56th Malaysia Day, and I urge my fellow citizens to be united to reject all kinds of rethoric which destroys unity in this country," she added.

"We need to think of the efforts we have made together, and the challenges we will face in the future to rebuild the country we love to make it more succesful," she stressed.
Hui Ying was referring to false news and racist statements, including political slander which seem to be a norm among citizens on social media lately.
Her comments comes in the wake of the 'Buy Muslim First" campaign which certain quarters perceive as a boycott of non-Muslim products.
Her party, DAP, had been the target of many who deem it powerless in the face of the learning of khat being imposed on standard four students.
Hui Ying said the situation persists as people are easily duped by opposition leaders who supposedly champion unity among the races.
"But daily, all kinds of false news are viralised on social media, and there are certain quarters who are willing to be influenced by such filthy politicking," she said.
"When issues of race or religion are being played up, the people tend to act randomly and blame the Pakatan Harapan government.
"The government is dragged into racial and religious issues that eventually make everyone angry and uncomfortable," she added.
She also pointed out that certain quarters find it easy to issue extreme comments in social media, and if no action is taken against them, others will follow suit.
"Such provocative behaviour is very dangerous and is bound to upset our harmonious community," Hui Ying said.
"This only shows how ignorant are those who spread false news, insult other people's race and religion and hurl slander against their opponents". -Mkini
