Malacca exco, Seremban Jaya rep detained under Sosma over alleged LTTE links

Police have detained two DAP assemblypersons over their alleged connections with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
The two are Malacca exco member G Saminathan and Seremban Jaya assemblyperson P Gunasekaran. It is believed the pair were detained this morning.
Sources have confirmed with Malaysiakini that both were held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) which allows for 28 days of detention.
Contacted later, Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy, who has repeatedly denied having links with LTTE, said he had limited information regarding the arrests.

"I was informed that an NGO leader was also picked up. This could be part of a larger dragnet," he told Malaysiakini this afternoon.
Previously, dozens of police reports were lodged against Ramasamy after a photograph surfaced depicting him and DAP's Bagan Dalam assemblyperson Satees Muniandy paying tribute to a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
However, Ramasamy said the two of them had attended a memorial service for victims of genocide in Sri Lanka.
"It was a ceremony we attended about two or three years ago, organised by several NGOs… a memorial service for those who died in the Sri Lankan ethnic conflict or victims of genocide,” he added.
Meanwhile, a message circulating on Whatsapp claimed that Saminathan, who is the assemblyperson for Gadek, was detained in his office and handcuffed.
However, Malaysiakini is unable to verify this information.
The message also urged the police to conduct checks on all MPs and assemblypersons to ensure that none of them are linked to terror groups which could jeopardise national security.
Police are expected to hold a press conference later on the arrests.
