Prosecution to seek AG's green light on citing Lokman for contempt

The prosecution will seek Attorney-General Tommy Thomas' green light on whether to file an application for leave to commence contempt proceedings against Lokman Noor Adam.
This is over Lokman (above) allegedly threatening Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin, who was Najib Abdul Razak's special officer.
A source who wished to remain anonymous told Malaysiakini that the prosecution will seek to set a time to meet Thomas as soon as possible, hopefully, earliest being tomorrow.
"(Prosecution) will most probably file (the application for leave to initiate contempt proceedings against Lokman) by next week.

"However, the prosecution has not obtained clearance from the AG (attorney-general). If given the green light, the prosecution will proceed," the source said this afternoon.
The source explained that green light is sought from Thomas (photo) because the Umno supreme council member gave a very dissatisfactory answer to the show-cause letter issued to him by the prosecution earlier.
"He (Lokman) did not give a reason (in reply to the show cause letter). His reply through his lawyer was that we do not have the power to issue the notice (to show cause), that (the prosecution) was denying him the right to speak under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution," the source said.
Article 10 deals with a citizen's constitutional right to freedom of speech and expression as well as the freedom to peaceful assembly and association.
The source added that the prosecution is most likely to obtain Thomas' leave to file the contempt leave application as the matter is a "clear cut case".
On Oct 3, it was reported that Lokman received a show-cause letter from the prosecution for purportedly threatening Amhari, who had testified during former prime minister Najib's trial over 25 counts of abuse of power and money laundering linked to RM2.28 billion of 1MDB's funds.
Lokman was given 10 days to respond to the letter, which was reportedly issued to him on Oct 1.  - Mkini
