PUTRAJAYA: Prisons Department director-general Zulkifli Omar has called for a special team to conduct a study on the need to create a private prison in the country.
He said the team should comprise members from external parties as well as officers from the department itself.
“We need to get the views of the people on whether they are agreeable, as well as that of academics and professionals,” he said.
When met after opening the 2019 Parole Prospects Interaction Night and Prisons Department Community Service here yesterday, Zulkifli said there had been no discussions with any organisations so far.
Last Friday, Deputy Home Minister Azis Jamman urged the Prisons Department to study the possibility of a private prison. - FMT
