COUNTDOWN TO MAY 9, 2020 – THE DAY WHEN MAHATHIR WILL RETIRE? SHADOWY HANDS CLAIM ‘DEAL’ STRUCK FOR DR M TO UPROOT BERSATU, AZMIN CARTEL INTO UMNO TO FORM NEW GOVT – NAJIB & ZAHID TO ‘EXIT PEACEFULLY’ IN EXCHANGE FOR FREEDOM FROM CORRUPTION CHARGES

KUALA LUMPUR – Three Facebook groups that have been rallying for PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s accession as prime minister yesterday posted a countdown to the day it’s supposed to happen – May 9 next year — which will be two years to the day when the Pakatan Harapan coalition won the 14th general elections to oust the Barisan Nasional which had ruled the country uninterrupted since 1957.
The live timer which has yet to gain significant traction at press time came in the wake of a controversial meeting said to discuss ways to thwart plans of a coup against Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
Mahathir was subjected to mounting pressure by Anwar’s camp, supported especially by those in the DAP and PKR, following Pakatan’s crushing defeat in the Tanjung Piai by-election, where the coalition suffered its fourth and worst defeat in the five by-elections this year.
Two individuals have since been shoved into the limelight: Anwar’s party deputy Datuk Seri Azmin Ali – whose official residence in Putrajaya was the venue of a meeting with some Umno and PKR MPs — and former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
While the latter denied that he had led the group of 22 Umno lawmakers, his detractors don’t believe a word of this and insisted that Hishammuddin was indeed the mastermind.
Following this, sources within Umno known to be supporting the idea of resisting Anwar’s takeover in Putrajaya, have said that a deal had been agreed between some Umno leaders and Mahathir.
They claim that this group is in the process of convincing not just Umno lawmakers but also divisional leaders to support the plan.
According to one source, the plan is for Mahathir to eventually uproot Pribumi Bersatu from Pakatan, along with several PKR and Amanah leaders to join Barisan Nasional and its allies to form a government.
At their end, the Umno leaders are required to completely oust embattled Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and also remove former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak from the party in order to effectively cleanse Umno of corruption and money politics.
“In exchange for their peaceful exit, the duo will have their charges dropped. We need to do this because as long as Najib and Zahid continue to be in Umno, the party will never be able to rejuvenate itself,” said the source.
Aside from Zahid and Najib, several other Umno leaders will be removed for the same reason and they include treasurer Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
The sources were however not clear on when the plan will fully take effect.
“For now, what really matters is for us to prevent any no-confidence vote against Mahathir. We cannot let Anwar take over the seat of power as this would be bad for Umno, the people and Malaysia,” commented another source.
