PPBM man slams egoistic party leaders for polls defeat

PETALING JAYA: A suspended Johor PPBM leader has used Pakatan Harapan’s defeat at the Tanjung Piai by-election to blame a central leadership member, A Kadir Jasin, and the party leadership for their attacks on Johor royalty.
While PH leaders are licking their wounds from the trouncing by Barisan Nasional, Norul Haszarul Abu Samah said the attacks on royalty had cost PPBM the by-election.
PPBM fielded Karmaine Sardini as the PH candidate in the by-election. He lost to BN’s Wee Jeck Seng of MCA by a 15,086-vote majority, costing PH a seat narrowly won in the May 2018 general election.
Norul Haszaru claimed that the constant sniping at Johor royalty, conducted via social media by PPBM leaders, had caused disaffection among Johor voters.
He pinpointed PPBM supreme council member A Kadir Jasin as heading the campaign, which he claimed had influenced younger leaders to be similarly disrepectful towards members of the state royal family.
He did not name Kadir, who is media advisor to the prime minister and a former chief editor of the New Straits Times Press, but described him as a guru of the journalism community and member of PPBM’s supreme council.
Norul Haszaru also blamed the egoistic attitude of certain national party leaders for the by-election defeat, saying they refused to accept advice, and gave as an example the side-stepping of menteri besar Sahruddin Jamal from the state party leadership line-up.
He said the by-election loss was surprising, given that senior party leaders were from Johor. PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin is MP for Pagoh, and is a former menteri besar of Johor, while PPBM Youth leader Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is MP for Muar.
Norul Haszaru was suspended as state PPBM Youth wing leader in July, after disagreeing with national leaders on a new law which set 30 as the age limit for members of youth organisations. - FMT
