KUALA LUMPUR: Disciplinary action will not be taken against Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (pic) despite his absence from PKR’s weekly political bureau meeting on Wednesday (Nov 20) night, says PKR’s communications director Fahmi Fadzil.
The PKR deputy president was expected to provide an explanation to top leaders regarding a controversial meeting with Barisan Nasional MPs at his official residence last Monday (Nov 18).
“We are still waiting for full information from him. But, since he wasn’t present, then we still have to wait for further information, ” Fahmi said to reporters when met at the Parliament lobby after PKR’s political bureau meeting on Wednesday (Nov 20) night.
Fahmi also noted that PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin was not present in the meeting.

Both Azmin and Zuraida have been notably absent from the PKR’s weekly political bureau meeting for several months, due to strained ties with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s faction in the party.
However, Fahmi said that PKR is still willing to wait for Azmin’s explanation regarding his meeting with the 22 Barisan and five PKR MPs at his official residence at Presint 10, Putrajaya.
“We would like him to come and explain. We didn’t set a timeline for that, ” he said.
Fahmi also reiterated that the party hasn’t decided to take action against Azmin when pressed further by reporters.
“Perhaps he has urgent matters that he has to attend to. Perhaps the media can ask him, ” he said.
Fahmi added that PKR hasn’t issued any show-cause letter to Azmin despite his continued absence from the party’s weekly political bureau meeting.
He also said that Azmin and Zuraida’s continued absence would not affect the party’s unity ahead of its annual state conventions.
“I think most state conventions before this, almost if not all of the division chiefs are in attendance. So I think that itself is quite strong support. I believe 90% of the division chiefs have stated their unequivocal support for the party president, ” said Fahmi.
Earlier on Wednesday, PKR Youth secretary Ahmad Syukri Che Ab Razab said Azmin will continue to create issues until the party is forced to sack him.
According to Syukri, this is so that Azmin and his faction would be perceived as heroes who were sacked merely for telling the truth.
