PKR deputy uses sex allegations as examples in measure of loyalty

PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali tonight raised the sex allegations levelled against Anwar Ibrahim to highlight his steadfast position in defending the PKR president.
However, Azmin (photo) lamented that when similar allegations were levelled against him, he did not appear to enjoy similar support.
Azmin said he had defended Anwar against sodomy allegations since 1998 without question.
"I never asked, I just went down to the streets...," said Azmin alluding to the early years of Reformasi before PKR was eventually founded in 1999.

Azmin recounted how he was arrested and beaten up, all the while being forced to make a false confession.
"(They said) if I don't confess, 20 years under ISA! I said 'no such thing' (happened) [...] (They asked) where is the video? And I said, 'if there is a video then play it at Dataran Merdeka.’
"It is up to that extent...that's how much I cared for my president," said Azmin to wild cheers from the crowd.
At the same time, he was quick to point out a more recent allegation involving Anwar's former research officer Muhammad Yusoff Rawther, in a statutory declaration dated Nov 19.
As the amused audience continued to cheer, Azmin maintained a serious demeanour, stating that he had likewise also defended Anwar.
"What did I say? I said, as a deputy president, I will defend my president.
"From PKR, we reject gutter politics, we reject slander," said a fiery Azmin, buoyed by the cheering crowd.
However, he lamented that he had not received the same support when hit with an alleged sex video scandal earlier this year.
"Six months ago...when I was slandered...," Azmin said without finishing his sentence, as voices from the crowd shouted that there were calls for his resignation.
"They were so quick to ask me to resign...don't be that way...," he said, shortly before ending his speech.
More than 2,000 people attended the gathering tonight, held several hours after the end of PKR's official congress in Malacca.
Organisers put the figure at closer to 5,000 people. -Mkini
