THE Pakatan Harapan presidential council said Anwar Ibrahim has enough support to become the next prime minister based on the selection process set by the king.
In a statement, the council said it hopes the PKR president and Port Dickson MP will be granted an audience by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to present his case to lead the country.
“The PH presidential council places its trust in the process and wisdom in finding a solution in the appointment of the prime minister,” it said
The statement comes after Istana Negara invited leaders of political parties to nominate their prime ministerial candidates.
The statement also said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was not satisfied that any of the nominated candidates has majority support in Dewan Rakyat after interviewing members of Parliament on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The statement issued by Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin did not say when the leaders will be summoned to have an audience with the king.
PH currently has 92 MPs.
Umno has 39 seats whereas PAS, 18. Together with BN parties MCA, MIC and PBRS, Muafakat Nasional has a total of 61 seats.
Meanwhile, Gabungan Parti Sarawak has 18 seats while Warisan counts nine among its ranks in Parliament.
Earlier in a statement, Bersatu said it will nominate Muhyiddin Yassin as its prime minister candidate.
The party’s secretary-general Marzuki Yahya said all Bersatu MPs agreed for Muhyiddin, who is party president, to be the candidate.
“We will forward his name to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his consideration,” said Marzuki in a brief statement after the party met for three hours in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said the meeting was attended by 36 MPs.
It is unclear if the 36 includes Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The party has 26 MPs and the remaining MPs who attended are believed to be Mohamed Azmin Ali’s group of independents.
Umno, PAS back Muhyiddin for PM
MUAFAKAT Nasional, comprising Umno and PAS, are now backing Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister, after both parties insisted earlier they wanted snap elections.
In a joint statement, Annuar Musa and Takiyuddin Hassan said the two parties’ 57 MPs will back the Bersatu president for the post.
“Muafakat Nasional has agreed to nominate Muhyiddin Yassin, the Pagoh MP as the eighth prime minister,” the secretaries-general of both parties said.
With Umno and PAS backing Muhyiddin, the former home minister now has the support of 93 parliamentarians.
Currently, Pakatan Harapan has all 92 MPs in its stable backing Anwar Ibrahim for prime minister.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Barisan Nasional secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said all component parties have agreed to nominate Muhyiddin as prime minister.
“Umno, which has 39 MPs, together with MCA (2) and MIC (1), fully support Muhyiddin,” he said in the statement.

"ANWAR HAS THE NUMBERS TO BE NEXT PM, ONLY NEEDS TO MEET KING TO PRESENT PROOF".
ReplyDeleteWhat numbers?
Agong's requirement needs at least 112 sokongan for a candidate, not merely the highest number to avoid another fragile coalition. Candidates hari itu lebih dari 2 orang, tiada siapa dapat 112.
Malaysia Chronicles dah mula nak salahkan agong. Kalau tak sudi tunduk hormat keputusan agong, silakan tonggeng bontot kepada Anwar.
Aku sokong sesiapa sahaja jadi PM asalkan bukan Anwar dan Zahid & the kleptomaniacs.
