KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Rais Yatim expects Sunday's (March 1) swearing-in ceremony for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister to proceed smoothly.
The veteran politician and Bersatu supreme council member said this after being questioned about Pakatan Harapan's claims that the coalition now has a majority, with 114 MPs supporting Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister.
"Dr Mahathir is an intelligent person. I don't think he wants to see the country in chaos," Rais told the media after leaving Muhyiddin's house at about 10pm.
Rais said he was confident in Muhyiddin's ability to steer the country into better times and to weather political storms.
When asked whether there was a split in Bersatu, Rais denied it.
"I didn't hear of any splits," he said.
He, however, admitted that there could be differences in opinions in the party.
"As long as the name is politics, there will be divides," he added. - Star
