KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan is open to anyone to join the party as long as they are fighting for Malaysians, says party president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau (pic).
Lau said this in response to speculation that Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who was sacked from PKR on Monday (Feb 24), will be joining Gerakan.
"Whoever whom is fighting for the rakyat (Malaysians), we will accept," he said, adding that those who wished to join Gerakan needed to also agree with the party's ideology and respect its constitution.
Lau, however, added that the party has not received any application from Azmin to join Gerakan.
"We still don't have his application form yet. If you have it you can pass it to me," he joked.
Lau also said that for now, the party has no plans to rejoin Barisan Nasional.
He was speaking to the media before the start of Gerakan's central committee meeting that was called on Monday.
Gerakan will discuss about its stance and direction of the party during the meeting, he said, adding that it will be a "long" meeting seeing that the political situation was still uncertain.
"What is the current situation? I also don't know.
"It's difficult to comment about the current situation as we don't know yet," he said.
Gerakan, however, will always prioritise Malaysians' rights and needs, he added. - Star
