BIG FISH, SMALL FINE – SMALL FISH, BIG FINE? COPS TO PROBE BERSATU REP FOR ‘FLOUTING’ MCO BY CELEBRATING RAYA WITH 21 PEOPLE DRESSED IN TRADITIONAL MALAY ATTIRE

SHAH ALAM: Police will investigate allegations that Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari violated conditional movement control order (MCO) rules while celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Baharudin Mat Taib said police received a report about said gathering on Wednesday (May 27) just as pictures of the alleged event were posted on social media.
“We will be calling in Rashid and anyone else who can help with investigations to get their statements before proceeding further,” he said.
One of the pictures uploaded on a Facebook page showed Rashid, who is also Selangor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chief, with 21 others dressed in traditional Malay attire in front of a house.
The government had relaxed the conditional MCO rules for the first day of Hari Raya only to allow close family members to celebrate the end of Ramadan together on the condition that guests were limited to 20 people.
They also had to maintain good hygiene and practise social distancing.
This year, the first day of Hari Raya fell on May 24.
However, there were those who held gatherings after that and were served with a RM1,000 compound.
Among them was a house owner in Taman Selayang Mutiara who hosted 18 people on the second day of Hari Raya as well as a group of nine men aged 20 to 23 in Kota Damansara who had a barbecue party on Tuesday (May 26) night.
