Covid-19: UUM student tests positive in Kedah

ALOR SETAR: A new positive Covid-19 case was reported on Wednesday (May 20), when a Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) student was tested positive at a Covid-19 screening conducted on the campus in Sintok in preparation for students returning to their home state of Sabah.
It was understood that the female student was then transferred to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar and placed under quarantine.
Kedah has recorded 96 positive Covid-19 cases, with one death and 94 cases recovered so far.
Kubang Pasu District Health Office is conducting an investigation including tracing and detecting close contacts of the student.
For the past 28-days, the state had not reported any new cases of Covid-19.
The state had been declared a green zone state by the Health Ministry.
State Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman (pic) said 287 UUM students were screened and a female student tested positive.
"Another student was required to undergo re-testing.
"A total of 285 students were permitted to return to their hometowns after being tested negative.
"We were informed that the students had earlier went to a popular shopping mall in Alor Setar.
"At present, the State Health Department (JKN) is looking to trace close contact of the students and detailed information will be made available," he said when contacted on Wednesday.
JKN Kedah, in a statement on its Facebook page, confirmed a new positive case of Covid-19 was reported in Kubang Pasu. - Star
