CORONAVIRUS | The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) will resume Age 50/55/60 withdrawals and mobile i-Akaun activation services at branches in states implementing the conditional movement control order (MCO) as well as Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
In a media statement issued yesterday, EPF chief executive Alizakri Alias said however that branches will remain closed in Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak until further notice.
"The EPF knows the imposition of the MCO since March 18, 2020, was a necessary measure, but we were very concerned as further MCO extensions meant that services requiring face-to-face transactions, such as withdrawals and mobile i-Akaun activation, were disrupted.
"With the conditional MCO announced recently, we are very pleased to announce the resumption of some of these services at approved branches throughout the country," he said.
On Labour Day on Friday last week, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that with the beginning of the conditional MCO today, most businesses and social activities are allowed to resume nationwide.
Alizakri said that with the resumption of these branch activities, EPF will enforce strict operating conditions to limit the exposure of members and staff to the possibility of Covid-19 infection.
He said only simple and fast transactions requiring no physical contact, for example, age 50/55/60 withdrawals and mobile i-Akaun activation services, will be available at these branches.
Alizakri said other conditions are that employers are not allowed to visit branches as all services can be conducted via contacting their Employer Advisory Services officers; that all members must follow the EPF social distancing measures during their entire visit; and that member visits can only be made by appointments via the Janji Temu Online facility within the EPF website www.kwsp.gov.my beginning Tuesday, May 5.
"We know the past one-and-a-half months have seen a lot of dissatisfaction among our members concerning the EPF service levels. I can only hope they understand that Covid-19 has totally erased the old ways of doing things and has forced on all of us a new ‘low touch, high distance’ service reality that we all have to adapt to.
"I appeal to our members’ generosity and patience to allow the EPF to evolve to this new norm as quickly as possible. InshaAllah, in the very near future, we will be able to deliver to all members, 100 percent of our products with the highest service quality through all our physical (branches, outreach and kiosks) and electronic (call centre, website and mobile) channels," he said. - Mkini
