Malacca exco Idris Haron has denied rumours that he may be removed from his position for allegedly disagreeing with the appointment of state Umno chief Ab Rauf Yusoh and liaison committee deputy chairperson Mohd Ali Mohamad as the assembly speaker and senator respectively.
“Everything is fine over here. (That is) fake news,” Idris (above) said when contacted by Malaysiakini today.
The former Malacca chief minister also denied allegations that he was not invited to the pre-council exco meeting to discuss the agenda for the Malacca state assembly on May 11, specifically on the appointments of the speaker and senator.
These allegations are being shared in a posting on Facebook as well as through WhatsApp.
Previously, Idris, who is also the Sungai Udang Umno assemblyperson, had brushed off speculation that he was plotting a defection along with several Umno assemblypersons in Malacca.
At that time, he had expressed satisfaction over his current position as a government member who “holds an important portfolio”, saying that there are “crazy people” who like to see fractions in Umno.
The denial came after an Umno source claimed that Idris, who has a long-time discord with Ab Rauf, has been unsatisfied with the latter for controlling government affairs since Perikatan Nasional (PN) took over Malacca.
Ab Rauf, who is also Malacca Umno chief, purportedly dominated the state political resources and positions and gained more power after he was appointed state assembly speaker. - Mkini
