Kedah PKR intends to take legal action against the two assemblypersons who defected from the party today, which caused Pakatan Harapan to lose power in the state.
“They have sworn and signed a document where, if they were to leave and jump parties, they will have to pay PKR RM10 million per person over the betrayal they have committed today.
“So to them, be ready to face this situation because it is what you have promised to the people,” said Kedah PKR chief Johari Abdul in a press conference today.
Earlier, Sidam assemblyperson Dr Robert Ling Kui Ee (above, right) and Lunas assemblyperson Azman Nasrudin (above, left) announced their resignation from PKR.
They said they were now independent representatives who have pledged their support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the formation of a new Perikatan Nasional (PN) state government in Kedah.
Johari said they have betrayed the rakyat who are surely angry at them as they were not voted in on their own strength, but due to the party they represented at the time.
The two of them have shown that they put their own interests first, he said, and stressed that they have abandoned PKR and its fight for the people.
However, Johari noted that he is not surprised by their resignation, as the Lunas and Sidam representatives have been seen to be friendly with former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali after Azmin defected to PN in late February.
With the pair now in support of PN, Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir’s government is left with just 17 out of 36 seats. This means it loses majority and falls.
Last week, PAS Kedah chief Ahmad Yahaya claimed that his party was poised to take over the state government. - Mkini
