GEORGE TOWN: Several areas here were hit by flash floods after a two-hour downpour on Tuesday (May 12) evening.
Among them were Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Van Praagh, Jalan Thean Teik and Kampung Shaik Madar in Ayer Itam.
State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said the heavy rain was due to the inter-monsoon season which is expected to last for a month.
“We have to brace ourselves for the wet weather for at least three more weeks. Low-lying areas are affected when the concentration of rainfall is high.
“There were flash floods on the mainland on Monday (May 11) whereas several areas on the island were affected on Tuesday (May 12),” he said in a phone interview. - Star
