Putrajaya reinstates limited interstate travel as festive season ends

Malaysiakini

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced that the blanket ban on interstate travel will be lifted as the festive season comes to an end.
Effective June 1, the senior minister said interstate travel for work, medical and emergency reasons will once again be allowed.
"I previously announced that interstate travel was not allowed whatsoever but the special ministerial committee today decided to provide leeway as before where interstate travel will be allowed for emergency purposes such as deaths and medical cases.
"The same applies to those who need to travel for work. For example, someone who lives in Seremban and works in Putrajaya," he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.
He added that the previous leeway for spouses working in different states to travel interstate will also be reinstated on the same date.
Ismail had on May 21 abruptly announced a ban on interstate travel following gradual relaxation of rules.
The move came days ahead of the Hari Raya celebrations as some motorists took advantage of the relaxation to flout interstate travel rules aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19.
