Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has expressed his gratitude to Kuching Bomba for its rapid response to a fire at his house in Jalan Nyiur in Kuching yesterday afternoon.
"A big thank you to the Kuching Bomba for their quick response," said Chong, who is former deputy minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, on Facebook.
"Our 20-year old family house caught fire. It started in my parents’ bedroom in the late afternoon. I called Bomba, and they were there in about 5 minutes. Had it not for their quick response, the fire would have spread to other rooms," he added.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations director Tiong Ling Hii said yesterday that a team of firefighters from Tabuan Jaya and Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue stations was immediately deployed to the Sarawak DAP chairperson’s house.
Tiong said the firefighters took about 20 minutes to put out the fire.
The fire destroyed about 20 percent of the room and at the time of the incident, there were five people - two men and three women - were in the house.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Chong also thanked well-wishers and apologised for not being able to respond to all.
"Thank God that all our family members are fine and safe," he said.- Mkini
