PETALING JAYA: All colleges and universities are to conduct teaching and learning activities online until Dec 31, although certain students will be allowed to be on campus grounds.
While face-to-face lessons will not be allowed, the higher education ministry said in a statement today that exemptions would be given to five categories of students to return to their campuses in stages.
Postgraduate research students in private and public institutions are now allowed to return to campuses, although this is only for those who are required to be there or have need of special equipment.
This is the only category of students, who are immediately allowed back on campus.
Students in the other four categories will have to wait for the conditional movement control order (CMCO) to be lifted.
They include:
- Final semester/year certificate, diploma and degree students who need to conduct clinical and practical work or require special equipment (as early as July 1);
- Final semester/year students without a conducive environment or access to equipment for online classes (as early as July 1);
- Special-needs students in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes in polytechnics and community colleges who require face-to-face guidance due to learning difficulties (as early as Aug 1); and,
- The new intake of certificate, diploma and degree students for the 2020/2021 academic session in all public and private universities, polytechnics, and community colleges.
The new intake of students will be allowed on campuses in stages, with polytechnic diploma and certificate, community college and private learning institution students allowed in, as early as July 1.
Diploma students will be allowed in as early as Aug 1 while access for degree and postgraduate research students in public and private universities will only be on Oct 1. - FMT
