A Bersatu leader does not think it would be feasible for prime minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin to rejoin Umno.
"There is no need to invite Bersatu to join Umno," said Bersatu supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
"When this is being done openly, then the question that arise is where do you place (Umno president) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi? Isn't this disrespectful?" he said in a statement today.
In an interview with Malaysiakini, Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman suggested Bersatu members join Umno as a way to resolve the rising tension between both Malay-based parties.
He said it would be likely for Muhyiddin to be maintained as the premier if he rejoins Umno.
Wan Saiful, however, urged Umno to instead focus on strengthening the structure of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Umno, he said, should learn from what that had happened to Pakatan Harapan after its leaders spoke vocally, citing Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy and Sungai Pelek state assemblyperson Ronnie Liu.
These Harapan leaders brought all matters to the media and that led to the collapse of the former administration, Wan Saiful pointed out.
"PN leaders must learn from history. Don't be so interested in bringing controversial matters to the media," he said.
"Don't be like Ramasamy who loves to court controversy when we should look for harmony," added Wan Saiful.
Efforts should be focused on the unity of PN, he added.
"PN is a coalition that unites the big Malay-based parties and it is led by Muhyiddin. If the coalition is successful, then the future of the Malays and all rakyat is protected," he said. - Mkini
