Immigration allows Singaporean man entry to unite with ailing wife

Malaysiakini

The Singaporean man who previously begged Putrajaya to unite him with his ailing wife has been allowed to enter Malaysia.
An elated CA Mahendran told Malaysiakini that he finally received a green light from the Johor Immigration Department yesterday.
Sighted by Malaysiakini, the letter stipulates that he will need to present his travel documents and a doctor-certified fit-to-travel letter to be permitted entry.
“I plan to make the trip tomorrow afternoon after I get my fit-to-travel letter,” he said when contacted today.
Yesterday, Johor Bahru MP Akmal Nasir met with Johor Immigration Department chief Baharuddin Tahir to plead Mahendran’s case.
He offered to help the couple after visiting the 58-year-old’s wife A Kavitha in Johor Bahru.
Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said on Wednesday that foreign spouses who did not have a spousal visa could enter Malaysia once they present necessary documents to the Immigration Department.
Mahendran, a Singaporean national who works on the island-state, got separated from Kavitha back in April after both countries sealed their borders to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Unable to walk due to diabetic ulcers on her feet, Kavitha has not been able to get her wounds dressed as she now lives alone with no one to help her.
Mahendran previously told Malaysiakini that he had made numerous appeals to enter Malaysia to tend to his wife but had been unsuccessful.
This was despite a June 22 announcement that foreign spouses were allowed to enter Malaysia if they obtained approval from the Immigration Department. - Mkini
