Suspects in security guard assault case still at large

Police are seeking two men for an investigation into the assault of two Nepali security guards in front of an apartment block along Jalan Harbour Place on Sept 16.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief, Noorzainy Mohd Noor, said they men are Muhamad Firdaus Muhamad Rodzi, 24, from Kampung Lahar Kepar, Kepala Batas in Penang and Ahmad Habibullay Mohamad Noor, 26, from Kampung Titi Tok Bandar in Perlis.

He asked them to go to the nearest police station or for anyone with information about them to get in touch with the police.

He said the incident happened at 9.45pm when the two security guards – aged 33 and 36 – were on duty at the apartment and were confronted by two suspects who punched one of them and caused him to fall over.

He said the victim suffered injuries to his lip, swollen cheeks, and fractured his left ankle.

His colleague who tried to halt the attack was also punched in the face and head a few times, causing swelling and bruising around his left eye and pain around his head.

He said the investigation revealed that the assault was triggered by the suspects’ displeasure at being told off for making too much noise in a unit that they rented since Sept 15 with four others.

He said the victim had also contacted the police about the group breaking apartment management rules.

“They were said to have been playing music loudly throughout the night and disturbing the neighbours. It is suspected that they were throwing a wild party.

“The security guard warned them a few times at around 4.30am and that the police would be informed if they continued making noise,” said Noorzainy.

He said the group that was supposed to leave the unit on Sept 17 has run away and that the 26-year-old, whom the police are searching for, has two prior records for crime and drugs.

“The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt,” said Noorzainy.
