‘Quarantine wristbands’ don’t only come in pink

 

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry has advised that people under surveillance or quarantine for Covid-19 don’t necessarily wear pink “quarantine wristbands”, but they come in other colours as well.

Aside from pink, the ministry’s director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the wristbands could also be white, blue, red, or yellow.

These are used to mark people who are under surveillance for being a close contact of a Covid-19 patient, travellers arriving from overseas, and people living under administrative enhanced movement control order.

"The colour used on individuals (people under quarantine) depends on stocks that are locally available and determined by the district health office. The date and place of testing will be written on the wristband.

"People who wear the quarantine wristbands are not allowed to leave home until the end of their quarantine period, except for the head of the family," he said.

Noor Hisham added that the wristbands may only be cut at the district health office once the quarantine period ended.

In a statement today, he urged members of the public to lodge police reports if individuals wearing quarantine wristbands are seen in public.

This is to protect the community from the risk of Covid-19 transmission, he explained.

Noor Hisham also reminded all members of society that they play an important role in stopping the spread of the disease by following the government’s standard operating procedures, which would break the Covid-19’s chain of transmission.

This included safe physical distancing, good hand hygiene through frequent washing with soap and water, and wearing facemasks while out in public or in crowded places. - Mkini
