Covid-19: Hishammuddin had close contact, two MBs quarantined too

COVID-19 | Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussien has been ordered to undergo mandatory home quarantine after being identified as a close contact of Pitas BN candidate Sufian Abdul Karim.

He said on his Instagram account that he had gone to Pitas to assist Sufian in his campaigning, and upon his return to Peninsular Malaysia, he has tested negative for the disease.

Nevertheless, he said has been contacted by the Health Ministry today to quarantine himself at home. Sufian had disclosed on Sept 26 that he tested positive for the disease.

The ministry requires all close contacts of Covid-19 patients to be quarantined at home for the 14-day incubation period of the disease.

Beginning yesterday, travellers arriving from Sabah are also required to undergo mandatory testing and be quarantined until the test results are ready.

Meanwhile, Hishammuddin said some of BN’s election machinery had also tested positive for Covid-19 and expressed hope that they remain resolute and wished them a speedy recovery.

“Although we complied with every standard operating procedure during the campaign, we are facing an unseen virus. The risk of infection remains high.

“Therefore, I am proud that despite being aware of this risk, it did not weaken the BN machinery’s resolve to sacrifice for race, religion and the nation,” he said.

He also urged all those returning from Sabah, especially members of the BN election machinery, to help the Health Ministry tackle the pandemic by undergoing testing and report back if symptoms appear.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man and Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu (above) are undergoing quarantine at home.

The separate reports said Azlan has volunteered to quarantine himself following his return from Sabah on Sept 26, which is before the mandatory testing and quarantine rule for Sabah travellers came into effect.

He has gone for testing at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital this morning.

Meanwhile, Faizal’s office reportedly said the Perak menteri besar had tested negative for Covid-19 upon returning from Sabah on Sept 20.

Nevertheless, he will still undergo quarantine at home in view of the surge in the number of cases in Sabah and will conduct important meetings virtually. - Mkini
