IPOH: Eighty-six people were evacuated to five temporary relief centres (PPS) following flash floods in several areas in Perak resulting from a downpour yesterday evening.

A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said 10 victims from four families were placed at the Pantai Besar community hall, the Dewan Kampung Sungai Ara and SK Pantai Besar Ai in Batu Kurau at 10 pm.

However, they were expected to return home later as the flood waters, which had reached 2m at one point, had receded, he said.

Forty-four flood victims from nine families were also evacuated to Sekolah Rendah Agama Rakyat Ngah Ibrahim Al Barakah, and 32 others from five families were placed at the Air Kuning community hall.

Apart from Batu Kurau, floods were reported at Kampung Air Kuning and Kampung Changkat Baru Matang in Taiping.

The spokesman said the department was carrying out operations to ensure the safety of all flood victims. - FMT
