Don’t be discouraged, Noor Hisham tells frontliners

Health DG Dr Noor Hisham has called for the whole nation to come together to fight a common enemy.

PETALING JAYA: Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah this evening told frontliners not to let critics prevent them from doing right by the people, after he was criticised by a government MP in the Dewan Rakyat.

The health director-general said serving the country was a calling “we must always carry with pride and honour”.

“Never let others bring us down from doing what is right for the rakyat. Wipe our tears, chin up, and let’s carry on,” he wrote on Facebook.

Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing sparked a heated argument in the Dewan Rakyat when he accused Noor Hisham of seeking publicity with his daily health briefings.

Tiong, who is Special Envoy of the Prime Minister to China, questioned why Noor Hisham was not visiting hospitals to provide moral support to medical teams and asked: “Is he afraid of dying?”

Noor Hisham subsequently refuted the allegation saying he wasn’t afraid of death and had flown to Sabah at the end of August to monitor preparations for the state election.

Tiong, who is president of PDP, a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component, has since clarified that he was not out to attack Noor Hisham but was merely conveying the frustrations of frontliners and the people, while any shortcomings must be identified and addressed.

Tonight, Noor Hisham said that in times of crisis and war, the nation must come together “to fight a common enemy”.

“I call upon all frontliners to always ensure that we set our intentions to serve the rakyat and country wholeheartedly.” - FMT
