Jeram Padang assemblyperson Manickam Letchuman has urged water concessionaire Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan (Sains) to waive the November bill for houses affected by a flood in Seremban.
Manickam said this move will benefit about 1,000 account holders.
"Their water bills for November will continue to increase as they have to use a lot of water for cleaning purposes.
"Therefore, I urge Sains, whose chairperson is the menteri besar, to give free water to aid recipients for November.
"This is doable through Sains' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme," Manickam said in a statement today.
The flood, which began on Nov 4, inundated houses in Ampangan, Rahang, Mambau, Rantau, Linggi, Kota and their surrounding areas, he added.
For the record, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun yesterday said that the state government and Menteri Besar Incorporated had donated RM500,000 to the affected families.
The state government donated RM300,000 while Menteri Besar Incorporated contributed the balance. The money was handed to the respective assemblypersons and their coordinators.
According to Bernama, a total of 420 people from 84 families were evacuated after two metres of floodwaters inundated their houses.
Among villages affected were Kampung Datuk Mansor, Taman Happy, Taman Mok Sum, Kampung Bukit Chedang, Kampung Baru Block C Ampangan, Kampung Batu 3, Taman Angsa Mas and Kampung Siliau.
An animal shelter in Seremban was also badly affected by the flood, after 54 dogs, including a newborn pup, drowned in the incident.
Seremban is under the conditional movement control order until Nov 18, following a surge of Covid-19 cases in the district. - Mkini
