Kelantan rivers close to overflowing, residents told to prepare for floods

Several rivers in Kelantan are close to overflowing after heavy rainfall last night and flooding can occur, said Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department chief Md Salleh Sarbini.

"As such, all residents, especially those living near rivers must be wary and always on alert with the water levels at their own areas," he told the media today.

Three rivers have already exceeded warning levels as at 10am, namely Sungai Kampung Lembaga in Gua Musang, Sungai Pergau in Air Bol, Jeli, and Sungai Kuala Krai.

Md Salleh said residents should make early preparations such as moving furniture, securing important documents, and moving to evacuation centres early.

He said the fire and rescue department is prepared for any eventualities and has made early logistical preparations as well.

"Further, the country is currently facing the Covid-19 pandemic, that requires the fire and rescue department to work with the new norms, but this doesn't affect our commitment to continue serving with excellence," he added. - Mkini
