Malaysia Airports receives multiple awards for health and safety

KLIA and the Sandakan and Kota Bharu airports are among the award winners.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd has won industrial safety standard awards from the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH).

Group CEO Mohd Shukrie Salleh said the society has awarded Malaysia Airports with the Gold Class 1 Award for Sandakan Airport and the Gold Class 2 Award for both KLIA and Kota Bharu Airport.

He said the Malaysia Airports corporate office received the Gold Class 1 Award and the airports subsidiary, Sama-Sama Hotel, received the Silver Award.

“Safety at our airports has always received top priority, and with the current pandemic, we are even more vigilant,” he said in a statement.

“Implementation alone is not enough – stringent documentation on the protocols and periodic on-site audits ensure that standards are upheld at the highest level.

“The stellar audit results behind these awards are testaments of our commitment to ensure the safety of all airport guests.”

Mohd Shukrie said the award evaluation criteria included the management’s commitment towards occupational safety and health (OSH), performance measurements such as incident cases and compliance audit, OSH programmes such as health day, training and campaigns as well as the readiness of the Emergency Response Plan.

“We have a specially designated unit to primarily look at OSH matters. Not only do they look into the consistency and effectiveness of our current practices, they are also constantly keeping the organisation updated with the latest global trends that may be deemed necessary to enhance our safety and security standards,” he said.

The industrial safety awards are presented annually to organisations that meet the stringent documentation and site verification audit by a panel from various agencies, including the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia, Socso, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, SIRIM Bhd, Malaysian Employers Federation, MSOSH, multinational corporations and private companies. - FMT
