Johor police conducted a joint operation with the State Forestry Department at the Lenggor Forest Reserve in Kahang yesterday following public complaints of alleged illegal logging activities there.
Johor Police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay (above), however, said the 7am to 6pm operation found no such activities.
He said State Forestry Department director Salim Aman headed the operation, which involved 80 police officers and 22 forestry department personnel.
“When we reached the reported location, ‘Apartment 197’, there were only old logs and no sign of illegal logging activities.
"We will conduct operations with the forestry department again if there is any new information,” he told reporters at the Kahang police station, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 15 of the National Forestry Act 1984.
He explained that complaints about the illegal logging activities first came to his attention a month ago.
