PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has instructed the National Security Council (MKN) to review the need to tighten the SOPs for interstate and interdistrict travel.
During the MKN special meeting that he chaired, Muhyiddin also told the security council to review whether social activities should still be allowed, in view of the rise in Covid-19 cases.
“I’ve been informed that the MKN will present the results of the Covid-19 technical committee’s discussions on the reviewing of SOPs at the MKN meeting tomorrow,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He also said the Election Commission (EC) and Attorney-General’s Chambers had been asked to study the legal aspects that would enable the looming Batu Sapi by-election to be postponed until the Covid-19 situation improved.
He said EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh had presented the SOP for the by-election at the MKN meeting today but had maintained that the polls would be difficult to hold with the pandemic still at its peak in Sabah.
“The situation (in the country) is still worrying and cannot be allowed to prolong.
“I want to ensure that all suggestions to improve our actions and preparedness to manage and control Covid-19 infections in the country are given enough consideration.
“At the end of the day, all this is to protect Malaysians from Covid-19 and to ensure they are able to continue with their lives,” he said. - FMT
